Prescription Sunglasses: Fun and Functional

Gone are the days when prescription sunglasses looked so drab and terse because of the confiningly straight frame that made wearers look uninteresting. Back in the day, sunglasses with prescription grade lenses were mostly functional, not glamorous or fashionable.

Now, prescription sunglasses can be fashionable, too. There are no more limitations as to shade, shape or size -- more and more fashion-conscious wearers of prescription sunglasses can now choose from an amazing array of shapes and colors to fit one's moods. One can choose a shape that fits the contour of his/her face from signature collections, and take that to a qualified outfit that specializes in fitting lenses for curved or unusually larger frames. This is a specialized art and science because extra care is taken when fitting the lens onto a curved or oddly shaped frame so as not to sacrifice focus and uneven penetration of light and, at the same time, accommodating the lens into the frame.

Imagine how it used to be before the advent of this technology -- a person who used prescription-grade lenses but was fond of spending so many hours under the blinding heat and harmful glare of the sun for one reaason or another, and wants to appear stylish at the same time, would have to be bringing two pairs of sunglasses: one pair that was drab with the prescription lens that made him/her look too prim and proper, and another pair that had ordinary lenses but was more fashionably shaped and was "up with the times," so to speak, and was useful only to ward off the harmful rays of the sun. Very cumbersome.

Those days are over. Particularly popular for sports wear and/or long travels, one can now bring only one pair of sunglasses that is stylish, corrective and functional all at the same time. With the lens treated with multi-coated chemical finishing, these fashionable prescription glasses are now useful to ward off the harmful effects to the eyes of exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays and from glare of light reflection when one looks at any object; and it is also now less prone to scratches so it can last longer than lenses without multi-coated treatment. This sort of eyewear is practical and really great for safe driving, playing or working during the daytime.
